Ryan Reynolds recently used his Instagram platform to request that Marvel fans avoid revealing spoilers from the set of Deadpool 3. Photos taken by fans have leaked key details surrounding the plot and connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Reynolds directly stated that it’s understandable people share leaks due to excitement, but noted that Deadpool 3 is about audience joy, so spoiling these surprises may detract from the enjoyment of the project. He posted the plea on December 6th as filming resumed on the next Deadpool movie following industry-wide work stoppages.
The post came after several photos surfaced showing potential X-Men cameos and the first clear merging of the Deadpool franchise with the wider MCU following Disney’s 20th Century Fox acquisition. Reynolds is reprising his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool and is the only Fox mutant actor confirmed for permanent MCU inclusion so far.
While acknowledging the need to film in public areas, Reynolds said Telephoto cameras have made it very difficult to preserve secrets about the Deadpool 3 plot that are aimed at eliciting shock and surprise. This mirrors issues faced by previous Marvel directors struggling with high fan demand for “scoops” and leaks captured from outdoor shooting locations.
As production moves forward on the highly-anticipated Deadpool 3, Reynolds clearly indicated spoiler avoidance is key. Time will tell if the pleas for secrecy enable the film to capture the intended audience thrill when it debuts next year.
