The High Evolutionary’s the cosmic scientist seeking the perfect race through radical genetic and evolutionary manipulation. He created the New Men, human-animal hybrids, and Counter-Earth, a parallel world. Dude’s also tied to the origins of heroes and villains like Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Spider-Woman and Adam Warlock.

Biography

The High Evolutionary’s real name is Herbert Edgar Wyndham – a 20th century British geneticist inspired by Mr. Sinister’s work who got cosmic secrets from an Inhuman. He experimented on animals and himself, gaining superhuman intelligence and abilities. He moved to Mount Wundagore in Transia, built a Citadel of Science and created the New Men. He also met the dark god Chthon, influencing the birth of Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch.

The High Evolutionary got fascinated by cosmic mysteries and traveled to space with his New Men. He created Counter-Earth intending a utopia but was thwarted by rebellious creations like Man-Beast and cosmic entities like Galactus and Thanos. He met Adam Warlock, giving him the Soul Gem Infinity Stone.

The High Evolutionary returned to Earth, clashing with the Avengers, Fantastic Four and other heroes. He tried manipulating humanity’s and other races’ evolution. He sometimes allied with baddies like Doctor Doom and Magneto or cosmic beings like Celestials and Living Tribunal. He also had kids, Wiccan and Luna, who married Quicksilver.

Powers and Abilities

The High Evolutionary has genius-level intellect, mastering genetics, biology, engineering and cosmology. He has advanced tech like an Evolutionary Accelerator mutating lifeforms and a spaceship traversing time/space. His armor enhances physical attributes and grants powers like telepathy, telekinesis, energy projection, size alteration and reality manipulation. But his powers fluctuate depending on his mental state.

Appearances

The High Evolutionary first appeared in Thor #134 (September 1966), created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. He’s been in comics like Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spider-Woman, Young Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, plus animated shows like X-Men: Evolution. He made his live-action debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) played by Chukwudi Iwuji. He’s the main villain and creator of Rocket Raccoon.
