Matt Murdock was blinded as a child by radioactive waste while saving an elderly man. The radioactivity enhanced his remaining senses to superhuman levels. As an adult, Murdock became a lawyer in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City, while secretly operating at night as the crime-fighting vigilante Daredevil.
His father, “Battling Jack” Murdock, was a boxer who raised Matt alone after his mother left them. Matt took up boxing himself but urged his father to get out of the corrupt business. When Jack refused to throw a fight, he was killed by gangsters. This spurred Matt to dedicate his life to justice.
