In surprising news for Marvel enthusiasts like me, Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly planning to reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man alongside Chris Evans in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

According to insider scooper MyTimeToShineHello on X, Downey has agreed to return to the MCU, presumably for the upcoming “Secret Wars” film.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is said to be hoping to reunite the original Avengers cast for another big team-up movie. Thanks to the MCU’s multiverse storylines, characters like Iron Man could be brought back despite their fates in films like “Avengers: Endgame.” This return of the OG Marvel actors debate is also heating up after poor performances of Marvel movies on the big screen since the Endgame. Feige, the MCU’s Megamind has been in talks with the decision makers to bring back the OG team for another big Avengers movie.

However, with the SAG-AFTRA strike ongoing, the status of Downey’s and Evans’ returns remains unconfirmed. Marvel has not officially announced their participation or provided details on which film they could appear in nor have these actors confirmed anything, so it’s too early to say.

But if the rumors pan out, it would be a major development for Marvel fans to see two of the MCU’s most beloved stars back in action. It could provide a nostalgic end to the Infinity Saga era as the franchise heads into uncertain new territory.
