The title for the upcoming Avengers 5 film set for release in 2026 may be getting a change, according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter.
The next Avengers movie was previously announced as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, named after the villain Kang the Conqueror. However, sources say Marvel Studios could drop the Kang Dynasty subtitle in light of recent developments.
Previously, Marvel has parted ways with Kang actor Jonathan Majors following his assault conviction. Additionally, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which introduced Majors as Kang, underperformed at the box office with just $476 million worldwide.
With Marvel said to be taking the story in a different direction, executives have allegedly decided the Kang Dynasty title no longer fits the film. Insiders say the studio is considering new options for the title.
As of now, Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed any changes to the Avengers 5 title or plot details. But if true, this would mark a major shift for the project first teased as Kang Dynasty.
The still-untitled Avengers 5 already carries significance as the next team-up film after a seven-year gap since Endgame. With recent Phase 5 films stumbling, the 2026 tentpole has even greater pressure to revitalize the MCU. Marvel president Kevin Feige previously ranked it second only to Deadpool 3 in importance among upcoming projects, which is already breaking records with the most watched trailer in 24 hours.
While the title itself is not as critical, the reported move away from Kang hints at a back-to-basics approach for the storied Avengers franchise. With new characters across the universe, the 5th Avengers could take the story in an unexpected new direction.
Marvel has yet to comment on the reported title change for Avengers 5, which remains scheduled for May 1, 2026.
